#FestivalOfLearning in London

From the 27th to the 30th of July I attended the 19th AIED conference taking place during the Festival of Learning at UCL in London, the U.K. The event featured three co-located conferences: the International Conference of Learning Science (ICLS), Learning at Scale (L@S) and Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED). The conference was highly participated (around 1000 attendees) and allowed for cross-pollination between different communities. I attended only AIED and in this post I try to summarise my experience.

On my way back from the 14th Technology Enhanced Learning summer school 2018 (JTELSS), I am collecting my thoughts on the last summer school experience in Durrës, Albania. It was the third Technology Enhanced Learning summer school in which I participated and certainly, the experience was different from the previous ones.

Lessons learned at #LAK18

The beautiful city of Sydney hosted the 8th international conference of Learning Analytics 2018 (LAK'18). There with my colleagues of OUNL and DIPF, we brought our contributions to the research community.

This year my main contribution constituted in the organisation of Multimodal Data Challange at the Learning Analytics Hackathon. Together with my colleagues Jan Schneider (DIPF) we brought our approach to capturing, storing, analysing, annotating and exploiting multimodal data. The challenge was introduced by the info document of the Hackathon, as well as the 3-pages submission for the LAKHackathon submission Multimodal challenge: analytics beyond user-computer interaction data.

HACK@LAK18 Call for Proposals

The Hack@LAK18 is a pre-conference workshop of the 8th International Learning Analytics and Knowledge Conference (LAK). It is the fourth in the series of Hackathons held at LAK, where we encourage a hands-on approach to combining novel data sources in a realistic infrastructure for the benefit of Learning. The approach is multi-disciplinary, reviewed from all angles, self-organising and team building. Anyone is welcome to participate as long as they are motivated to be politely critical and work towards and expand common objectives.

Please feel free to bring along your research questions, datasets and methodologies to the workshop for incorporation in the multidisciplinary activities. If you would like to suggest open research questions that you think should be addressed at the event, then please see our Call for Proposals which is open until December 18. However, you don’t have to have submitted a proposal in order to participate!

The event itself will take place on March 5-9, 2018 in Sydney, Australia.

Last week the European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (#ECTEL2017) took place in Tallinn University with an overarching theme: "data-driven approaches in education". This year's conference focused on the role of data and learning analytics as means for deciphering and improving learning and teaching practices.
